A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Summary of the Second Amendment

The purpose of the Second Amendment is so the militias will not have to worry about the Federal Government taking their guns away. This amendment is saying that people should be able to have a gun to protect themselves. This amendment was necessary to the militias so they could protect their states.  The amendment was a benifit to the states.  It protected the people of the states when they were at war.

Historical Background of the Second Amendment

This amendment was approved in 1791. The reason it was included at this time so the militias were able to have guns. This amendment is important today so no one can take away your gun unless they have a very good reason. For all the people that hunt, this amendment allows them to have gun.  Also, it allows for all people who are in the army to have weapons so they can protect our country.
